November 28th 2009 "247" - The Last Two Days
The last two days ( Friday & Saturday) have been productive. With the guidance of Jack, and the help of Rick Wolanin on Friday, and Dick Babcock today, the side boards are cut out, planed to finish thickness, ready to be finished around the edges, and to be turned into a hull. The runner plank, and the spring board are both all laid up, epoxyed together, and are right now clamped up awaiting to be cut to shape, and finished.
"247" is going to be a boat! Walt Ward
November 27th 2009 Here are some photos (thanks Rick) from today. Commentary from Walt tomorrow.
November 25th 2009 "247" Clamped Up Some folks go Camping, yesterday myself and Rick went clamping. We were fortunate to have Jack watching every move, and better yet, pointing for each step in the process. As most may have seen, we got the side boards edge glued (epoxy) and the back rest, 4 pieces of Okoume, painted with epoxy, formed and clamped into shape. I was lucky on that one, others have to first build the jig, in my case my helper - Jack just happened to have one in stock.
Tomorrow (Friday) I believe we will be running the side boards through the planer, and maybe cutting them to the shape of the hull, not sure, I will get the days production schedule when I get there. I don't know which is going to turn out to be the most fun, sailing "247" when she is on the ice, or watching raw lumber being turned into a exceptionally well designed and crafted "Need For Speed Machine" before my eyes, and most of it with my own two hands.
Stay with me
